Loved this newsletter and share the same feelings on a lot, but especially as it pertains to the use of meta. Unplugging from online platforms feels like a silent rebellion that will help us return to a more intentional and simpler (in a good way) life.
Beautifully put. Thank you so much for sharing. I've been pondering about my life and my business lately, too. It's nice to see another artist's thoughts and intentions.
JOY! - Making myself a lavender matcha in the morning. Heating up the matcha and letting some lavender blossoms steep in it for a couple minutes then straining out and adding maple syrup. Piping hot, sweet, delicious and such a lovely green. This together with a book that I want to read has been a nice moment of joy lately.
CURIOSITY - Still very much new to me, I greatly want to keep practicing with watercolor. I don't reserve nearly as much time for it as I know I want to. I'd like to continue to learn about culinary anthropology and finish the book I currently have. I'd like to read Let Them by Mel Robbins. Also curious about learning either Spanish/French/Portuguese.
Oh I love these Monique! You are inspiring me to try some lavender in my matcha too! I generally make it in the afternoon for a little boost and it also brings me a lot of joy, the whole art of making it too.
You are such a talented artist, I do hope you allow yourself to continue exploring watercolor!! And the book you are reading sounds fascinating :)
Currently reading An Edible History of Humanity by Tom Standage. A culinary anthropologist/chef recommended it as a place to start to learn more about the topic, so that’s where I’m beginning 😃. I still have a lot to read but it’s fascinating.
And yay! Love matcha and recently got the whisk, want to get a scooper, to tune in to the art of making it a bit more. I usually steep the lavender in for about 2-3 minutes depending on how strong I’d like the flavor. 🍵
Thank you, Molly. Your words always resonate on many levels. I can picture easily you, Rob and puppy living a rural lifestyle. It suits you! My husband and I loved our little 5 acre "homestead." I remained there for three years after his death, 43 years in all. I am adjusting to and creating a new "life" so to speak. There are challenges in being a party of one, but I'm learning and moving forward. I, too, am embracing frugality. I derive pleasure from many things that have nothing to do with dollars and cents. Take care, Molly. Enjoy your winter journey! ❤️
Awh Pam, thank you for the kind words and I am so grateful for your sharing. We shall see how rural life will go, but so far I am in love! :) It feels like a coming home. Sending love to you as you continue to unfold into a new season of life as well. And cheers to finding joy in all of the many things that money can't buy.
Instead of resolutions this year, I'm trying monthly projects: this month's is to break out the knife-sharpening kit I bought a couple of years ago and learn to use it to spruce up my kitchen knives. Other potential projects: finally setting up my spinning wheel, pulling out my old bookbinding supplies to bind some books; learning to make socca for my celiac sister; picking one of my craft/art books and working through the exercises over the course of a month (I have good ones for weaving and watercolor). I'm pretty excited about it.
So many good projects in here! Socca is delicious and I used to spin wool a bit when I lived in New Zealand and so enjoyed the silent rhythmic aspect to it, like playing a soundless instrument. So meditative. Thank you for sharing, you have me thinking about small projects for myself to explore!
So nice to read your words this morning, Molly. Much of what you shared resonates. Gratitude really has a way of gladdening the heart. The fellowship one happens upon while walking similar paths is also one of life’s great rewards. Thanks for the reminder your presence brought me today. It saddens me a little that geographically, we are moving in opposite directions, however it brings me joy knowing that you are out here in these Alleghenies! 💫🌀
Awh Marisa, I have been thinking about the odd and synchronistic timing of our moves too! I am sure there is a deeper through line and so true that we get to mirror to each other over the mountains and connect even when geographically switching places. Perhaps we will end up in the middle someday ;) sending love on your move and planting seeds of new growth as well!
Pure joy comes from my pets…I especially enjoy observing my cat right now. At 2 years old, she’s still very much a kitten and is so curious. I love watching her explore, discover, and test her limits. She’s a tripod so watching her abilities minus a leg is so amazing.
I actually just realized this morning that I’d like to learn a new language. Languages have always come easy to me but it’s been a while. My boyfriend put a set of “side quest” cards in my stocking this Christmas. Each card is a different activity meant to bring you joy or comfort in some way. Yesterday’s card was to learn how to say hello in a different language. I chose Turkish. Merhaba!
So beautiful, around observing your cat and receiving a lot of joy from that. Such a good reminder too of challenges creating even more awe and beauty. Congrats on taking on a new language! Sounds like a fun way to learn too with the cards :) thanks for sharing these ❤️

I couldn’t agree more! Thanks for the kind words and glad you feel a similar resonance 🙏🏻❤️
